10 to 12 Months Old
The signs shown by babies from ages ten
to twelve months old are the same as the earlier signs with the following
additions:
·
Can swallow food more
easily
·
Has teeth
·
No longer pushes food
out of his or her mouth with the tongue
·
Can already grip the
spoon
At this age, you still need to continue
to breastfeed your child but you can also feed your baby more kinds of food
than just pureed food or finger food. You can begin to offer cubes or strips of
soft or softened fruit, bite-sized and soft-cooked vegetables like peas, actual
cooked meals like small amounts of macaroni and cheese, lightly toasted bread,
and pureed meat like mashed up well-cooked beef.
At this stage, the amount of food also
increases. You can feed your baby 1/3 cup of dairy (but no cow’s milk until
past his or her first birthday), ¼ to ½ cup fortified cereal, ¼ to ½ cup soft
fruit, ¼ to ½ cup soft vegetables, 1/8 to ¼ cup of actual soft dishes like
well-cooked pasta or casseroles, and 1/8 to ¼ cup pureed and well-cooked
proteins.
