How to Home School Your Child - Benefits of Homeschooling

Many people do not realize the full benefits of homeschooling. For many parents, homeschooling is a rash decision made primarily because the public school system is not meeting their child’s needs. Other parents plan to home school from the time their child is born. Recognizing the benefits of homeschooling can give you a better grasp of your decision and the confidence to see it through.

Complete Control

When your child goes to public school and both parents work a full time job, there is little time spent as a family. The teachers at your child’s school spend more time with them than you do. This means that the school system has more control over what your child learns, both academically and socially.
When you home school, you have all the time in the world with your child to teach them the values you want them to have. Public schools may not share the values that you want your child to know and live by. By having complete control over the raising of your children, you can feel better about your child’s ability to survive and succeed in the outside world.

Family Time

Children and their parents bond as a family in the early years before the child goes to school. But once school begins, children often drift away from their family. They want to hang out with friends, and they spend more time away from home and in a completely different social environment. With homeschooling, you can strengthen family bonds.
When you dedicate yourself to spending time with your children by homeschooling them, you create a family atmosphere that stays with your children as they grow and become adults. These family values will be carried over to their own families when they get married and have their own children. They will forever remember the sacrifices you made to spend more time with them.

Religious Freedom

Religion is not taught in schools and is typically discouraged. Children earn detention for wearing crosses or other religious symbols to school. No one is allowed to talk about religion. In some smaller schools, they still allow some religion to be taught, but it is always Christianity. For Christians and other religions alike, it can be a great relief to know that your child is learning about your beliefs. It is much easier to teach them these beliefs and values in the setting of your own home, in your own time. Most parents who do not home school do not have the time to really instill these beliefs in their children.
